See It, Be It, Love It: On Nonbinary Superheroes

Superheroine Solutions (SHS) is named such because our founder proudly identifies as a woman. But even though our name is gendered, our work is not.

One of SHS’ mission pillars is to “[e]levate women-owned, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ organizations in order to level the playing field. We do this by honoring the web of life that connects us all.” And that means giving visibility to all people.

Did you know that there are a good number of nonbinary heroes in the Marvel, DC, and smaller comic company universes? Here are just a few:

Valentine Vuong (Marvel Comics): assassin’s guild member, friend of Deadpool, mutant with chemokinetic powers;

Halo, a.k.a. Violet Harper (DC Comics): refugee whose soul fused with a “Mother Box” and has immense powers through colorful auras; and

Nix of Nothing (independent webcomic): child of two mothers who is given the domain “nothingness” so that they may live as they wish.
