Client Profile: Friends of the Hidden River

Friends of the Hidden River (FOHR) was our first client here at Superheroine Solutions, and as such they have a special place in our hearts. Founded and run entirely by teachers, FOHR’s mission was to weave an environmental education component into the building of the Brightwater Wastewater Treatment plant in Woodinville, WA.

By garnering a feasibility study, lobbying legislators, and partnering with King County, FOHR secured the funds to build the Brightwater Environmental Education and Community Center.

SHS, in turn, secured program funding for the various activities FOHR would go on to conduct at the Center. Grants secured included:

*$125,000 from the Norcliffe Foundation for science laboratory equipment and buildout costs;
*$40,000 from SNO-PUD for solar panels to be built atop the Center; and
*$10,000 from the Russell Family Foundation for the first “Ground to Sound” summer science camp (run by FOHR teachers). The camp went on for a total of seven years!

Working with FOHR inspired us greatly, and we’re so grateful to have been part of their fundraising story!
